Introduction to the basic elements of music theory for non-music majors: scales, intervals, keys, triads, elementary ear training, keyboard harmony, notation, meter, and rhythm.

A general survey of music literature designed for the non-music major. Representative composers and their works are studied through recordings, lectures, reports, and live performances. The course focuses on the appreciation and analysis of musical compositions and performances, synthesis and interpretation of artistic expression and critical, creative and innovative communication about works of art. This course meets the standards for the Creative Arts category of courses under the core curriculum.

Women in Music is a biographical, historical, and sociological study of women's contributions to Western music from the 9th century to the present.

A performance ensemble for choral works of various styles and historical periods with a focus on sound production and collaboration. May be repeated for credit.

MUSI 3311  Voice Class

A class designed for developing healthy singing techniques in a variety of music styles. Concepts include tone production, breathing, diction, expression, and vocal health. Experiential components include peer-to-peer performance in a nonjudgmental environment for collaborative learning.

MUSI 3315  Music Theory

A continuation of MUSI 1303 Fundamentals of Music that includes harmonic progressions and analysis of music compositions. Concepts from MUSI 1303 are synthesized to both analyze existing compositions via deconstruction and reconstruction and also for the creation of original student compositions.

Prerequisites: MUSI 1303.
